The Winchester pictured here was built as an exact duplicate to the Winchester Model 1876 rifle carried by Theodore Roosevelt.  Turnbull Mfg. Co. will build up 25 of these rifles for The NRA Foundation.  The rifles will carry a special serial number sequence, TR01-TR25.

These rifles are not replicas; they are exact duplicates of the original rifle. In April of 2005, Doug Turnbull was granted access to the original rifle, which is on display at the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, (Long Island, NY) which was the home of Theodore Roosevelt from 1885 until his death in 1919.  Using measurements, dimensions and specifications from the original rifle Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. has duplicated the original rifle using the highest level of detail and attention to historical accuracy possible.  Using hundreds of photographs and painstaking measurements ensure the historical accuracy of the re-creation rifles.

Here’s an interesting fact for the history buff…It took Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. 31 days to re-create the first rifle, just missing by one day the time it took the factory to produce the original Theodore Roosevelt’s Winchester Model 1876.

Theodore Roosevelt was passionate about the outdoors, his hunting exploits are well known and well documented; he was also this country’s most passionate conservationist.  His foresight in setting aside wilderness areas and establishing our national parks system is the reason we can enjoy places like Yosemite National Park, the Grand Canyon and Yellow Stone National Park.

In the spirit of Roosevelt’s preservation & conservation, Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. has pledged $250,000.00 to the NRA foundation to fund and support the Conservation Laboratory at the National Firearms Museum.  The Conservation Laboratory catalogs, handles and prepares all of the firearms and related items that are on display in the museum. Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. is proud to support the National Firearms Museum, as well as the Conservation Laboratory’s work to preserve all of the firearms in the museum collection.

In an effort to ensure our work was more than just aesthetically pleasing, Turnbull Restoration & Manufacturing Co. looked for an opportunity to put the rifle to the test and what better way than an authentic Bison Hunt at Lee Hawes Ranch in Ford, Kansas?  Phil Schreier, curator of the National Firearms Museum (NRA Headquarters, Fairfax, VA)  just happens to be a Theodore Roosevelt fanatic.  He was invited on the hunt along with Tequila, the host of “Cowboys”  (The Outdoor Channel).  The hunt took place on October 1, 2005.  Photos of the hunt can be viewed HERE.
