Description

This is one of the earliest Colt SAA revolvers we have ever restored. This Colt 1st generation “Cavalry” Single Action Army looks just as it did the day it left the Colt armory in 1874! This revolver was originally built as part of the U.S. Army’s First Purchase Contract for 8,000 Colt SAA revolvers (serial # 177 – 8652).

This revolver has been restored to a “numbers matching” gun with the frame, back strap & trigger guard all marked with the serial # 2017. The gun has the correct “military” style polish, including the “feather marks” around the front sight. All of the correct inspector markings, including the grip cartouche and early italic style barrel address with the “slanted crosses” have been restored.

The barrel, cylinder & grip frame had to be replaced due to extremely poor condition of the originals. The ejector rod housing has the original 1st style mounting as well as the early “bulls eye” ejector rod head. A complete mechanical rebuild, full metal polish and restoration of all the frame and barrel markings was needed to return this Colt to its original factory condition.

The frame, loading gate & hammer are finished in the early style Bone Charcoal Color Case Hardening. The barrel, cylinder, ejector housing and grip frame are finished in period correct Charcoal Bluing. The screws, cylinder base pin & trigger are finished in the period correct “dull” Nitre Blue.
